A man struck by a Jeep in Midtown Anchorage died Friday evening, police said.
Patrol officers and Anchorage Fire Department medics responded around 5:16 p.m. Friday to a report of a pedestrian struck at 34th Avenue and C Street, police said in an online update.
Information from a preliminary investigation indicated that a Jeep Gladiator — a midsize pickup — was heading south on C Street when it struck the pedestrian, police said. The man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.
The Jeep’s driver stayed at the scene of collision “and is cooperating with the investigation,” police said.
Southbound C Street was closed at 34th Avenue as investigators processed the crash scene, and had reopened by 11:15 p.m., police said.
Friday’s collision marks the 15th pedestrian fatality in Anchorage in 2024, and the second in November. On Nov. 8, a 33-year-old man was fatally struck by an SUV along Brayton Drive in South Anchorage. No charges were filed in that incident.
