Southcentral Alaska and the rest of western North America, as well as the Pacific and eastern Asia, were treated to a rare sight early Wednesday morning: The overlap of a blue moon – the second full moon in a calendar month – with a lunar eclipse while the moon was at its closest approach to Earth.
