Despite less than stellar reports, scores of people tried their luck Thursday at the popular Fish Creek dipnet fishery near Wasilla.
"The fishing was slow," said Anchorage resident Gerald Leier, who didn't catch anything. "But it beats the heck out of work."
The Croak family, from Fairbanks, took a detour on their way home from dipnetting on the Kenai River. Leighton, 9, and his father Brian each caught a fish at nearly the same time.
The fishery is scheduled to close at 11 p.m. July 31.
