Anchorage youths gather to urge action on climate change

Around 200 mostly young people braved a constant downpour Friday in Anchorage to express their frustration over inaction by world leaders in addressing the climate crisis.

The gathering was inspired by 16-year-old Swedish activist Greta Thunberg, who led a group of what organizers estimated was 250,000 protesters in New York City.

Young people, some as young as 3 but most in their teens, held homemade signs with slogans such as “Save our environment save our future” and “The planet is hotter than Brad Pitt.” East High freshman Margaret Allen held a sign that read “Your apathy towards my future scares me.”
