UAA sophomore Cole Nash finished second in the NCAA DII West Regional Cross Country Championships on Saturday, qualifying for the national championships.
Nash ran a time of 30 minutes, 10 seconds on the 10K course, finishing three seconds behind Simon Fraser’s Charlie Dannalt.
“I’m continually impressed by Nash’s ability to execute a race plan and impose his will on a race,” associate head coach Chas Davis said in a release from the school. “Today’s only goal was to ensure an auto qualifier in the top five so that’s what he did.”
Teammate Michael Zapherson, a junior, finished seventh to earn all-region honors. UAA’s Tressa Wood finished the 6K course in 22:39 to place 61st as the top finisher for the UAA women.
The NCAA will announce the full field of individual and team qualifiers on Monday.
