UAA volleyball edges Western Oregon

The UAA volleyball team rallied for a 15-13 fifth-set victory to top Western Oregon in GNAC action Saturday.

The Seawolves almost let the match slip away after taking a commanding 2-0 lead. The Wolves fought back to take the next two sets before UAA closed out the win 26-24, 25-17, 21-25, 16-25, 15-13. The fifth set was especially competitive with four ties and a pair of lead changes.

UAA (12-4 overall, 7-1 GNAC) was led on the offensive end by sophomore Eve Stephens’ 16 kills. Teammates Kayla McGlathery and Vanessa Hayes chipped in with 12 and 11 kills, respectively.

For Western Oregon (3-12 overall, 1-7 GNAC), Sianna DeCarli had a match-high 17 kills and Lauren Smith added 16. UAA setter Ellen Floyd paced the offense with 45 assists and tied for the team lead with three aces.

Defensively, Anjoilyn Vreeland led the Seawolves with 17 digs. UAA hosts Simon Fraser on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Alaska Airlines Center.
