Wiggs surpasses 1,000 career points in UAA men’s basketball win over Trinity Western

Suki Wiggs became the fastest Seawolvs men's basketball player to reach 1,000 points in UAA's 84-54 drubbing of Trinity Western on Saturday at the Alaska Airlines Center.

The 6-foot-4 senior guard snagged an offensive rebound and made a layup that put UAA up 8-3 three minutes into the first quarter and catapulted him over 1,000 in career points at UAA.

Wiggs needed just 42 games to reach 1,000 points — three games faster than the previous program record held by Jesse Jackson (1985-87) and Jason Kaiser (1993-95). He finished the game with 14 points in 18 minutes on 6 of 13 shooting from the field.

Senior guard Spencer Svejcar lead UAA (7-3) with a team-high 22 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Senior center Connor Devine added 18 points on 7 of 10 shooting and senior forward Travis Parrish added a career-high 12 points off the bench.

The Spartans (2-10), a team from Langley, British Columbia, received 16 points from guard Pogos Trunyan and 10 from guard Vartan Tanielian.

After holding Trinity Western to a program defensive record of just 10 points in the second half of Saturday's 82-44 win, UAA came out strong in the rematch, using an 8-0 run to take command early.

UAA controlled both ends of the court, nabbing 17 steals and outscoring the Spartans 42-12 in the paint.

The blowout win allowed UAA coach Rusty Osborne to play 13 players, 11 of which tallied double digit minutes.

The Seawolves struggled from 3-point range, where they shot 29.6 percent, but UAA shot 45.1 percent from the field and launched 71 total shots to 54 for Trinity Western.

The Seawolves return to Great Northwest Athletic Conference action Dec. 29 in their league home opener against longtime rival Seattle Pacific. That game is set to tip at 7 p.m.
