Teammates battle for cross-country ski victories at Kincaid Freestyle

Rosie Frankowski beat teammate Becca Rorabaugh by six seconds Sunday to win the 10-kilometer Kincaid Freestyle, the fourth race in the Anchorage Cup cross-country ski series.

The fifth and final race in the series is Sunday’s Sven Johansson 30K, which also offers shorter distances.

Frankowski, a 2018 Winter Olympian, finished 15th overall in a field of 104 skiers in 26 minutes, 15 seconds. Rorabaugh, clocked 26:21, and Anna Darnell placed third in 27:12. All three women train together at Alaska Pacific University,

The men’s race was a battle between UAA teammates. Magnus Noroey prevailed in 23:21, with Sigurd Roenning 12 seconds back. APU’s Thomas O’Harra was a close third in 23:36.

In the 5K race, Olivia Soderstrom and Oskar Flora breezed to victories.

Heading into Sunday’s final Anchorage Cup race, Darnell and O’Harra lead the series standings.
