At Big 8 swim meet, three Dimond swimmers make a splash

It was the Big 8 swim meet — all eight Cook Inlet Conference teams getting together for a season-opening meet Saturday at Bartlett High — but it was the Big 3 from Dimond that made the biggest splash.

The Lynx boasted two double-winners and two record-breaking performances. Dimond’s Isabelle Borke and Kenneth Octuk were the only swimmers to win two individual events, and Borke and Dreamer Kowatch both broke school records with dominating victories.

Borke won the 100-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard individual medley race. In the breaststroke, she lowered her own school record with a time of 1:06.41. She won the race by nearly nine seconds.

Kowatch set a school record in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:11.10. She was nearly 40 seconds faster than anyone else.

Oktuk took wins in the 200 IM and the 100 butterfly.

No team scores were kept.
