The Dimond Lynx and South Wolverines went undefeated in pool play on the opening day of the state high school softball tournament Thursday at Cartee Fields.
Dimond defeated Chugiak and Colony by a combined score of 24-6 and South allowed one run in two games while outscoring East and West Valley by a combined score of 23-1.
In the Division II tournament for smaller schools, Ketchikan and Juneau won their respective pools by going 2-0. Juneau scored 38 runs in two games -- 19 in each -- while giving up 17. Ketchikan eked out a 7-6 win over Delta Junction and beat Kodiak 13-5.
Play continues through Saturday afternoon.
