All four of 2019′s state champions are back in the semifinals of the high school soccer tournaments.
The Colony Knights, the defending Division I boys champions, held off South 3-2 Thursday at West High to move into a Friday semifinal match againt the Service Cougars. The Knights never got a chance to defend their title last season, when the championships were canceled because of COVID-19.
Other 2019 champs winning on Thursday were the Dimond Lynx in the Division I girls tournament, the Kenai Kardinals in Division II boys and the Juneau Crimson Bears in Division II girls.
The state championships kicked off with 16 games played at three high schools on Thursday.
Play concludes Saturday with four straight championship matches at Service High.
