Long punt return makes the difference in South’s 7-0 flag football victory over Dimond

Karsyn Decker scored on a long punt return in the third quarter and then caught the point-after conversion pass, lifting the South Wolverines to a dramatic 7-0 win over the Dimond Lynx in a Cook Inlet Conference flag football game Saturday at South High.

Decker raced 45 yard for the game’s only touchdown.

“It was defensive battle for sure,” South coach Todd Heuston said. “We had an amazing effort on special teams with Karsyn Decker returning a punt for the only TD, (and) our kicker Chloe Sweet was able to pin Dimond deep on a few punts that really helped to seal the deal.”

Skyler Coleman led Dimond on both sides of the ball. She had five pulls and an interception on defense, and 72 yards on 13 carries on offense.

The Lynx also got defensive help from K.C. Sargento, who had seven pulls, including one for a loss, and Elle Cunningham, who had an interception.
