Big effort from goaltender carries South/Bartlett to girls hockey championship

Goaltender Carter Nelson fended off 40 shots to help South/Bartlett capture a second straight girls high school hockey championship Saturday at Ben Boeke Arena.

South/Bartlett defeated Dimond/West 3-1 despite getting badly outshot. Dimond/West had a 41-8 shot advantage, but Nelson was up to the challenge.

Sydney Perrault, Elizabeth Ramsey and Zella Aspengren scored goals for the winners. Kaddie Hanson scored the only goal for Dimond/West.

The same teams met in last year’s championship game, which also ended with a 3-1 win for South/Bartlett. The tournament featured all four teams from the Girls High School Hockey League of Anchorage.
