West Eagles snap Dimond’s winning streak in flag football

West 18, Dimond 6

The West Eagles returned two interceptions for touchdowns Saturday to hand the Dimond Lynx their first loss of the Cook Inlet Conference flag football season.

Arianna Harris and Sunny Pedebone both scored on long returns to lift the Eagles to an 18-6 win at West High.

The loss was the first in 12 games this year for the Lynx, who can still win the CIC regular-season championship by winning at least one of their two final games, Tuesday against Bartlett or Thursday against West.

Dimond will finish the season without a top defensive player, D'Shanna Schuster, who grabbed five flags before breaking her collarbone.

The Lynx jumped to a 6-0 lead on Angelline Nageak's 51-yard touchdown run.

West answered with Nyenia John's 68-yard catch-and-run. Harris made it 12-6 on a 55-yard pick six, and Pedebone sealed the win on Dimond's final play when she picked off a pass and took it 65 yards.

Nageak led Dimond with 99 rushing yards, 41 receiving yards and six defensive pulls. Kana Mateaki had a team-high nine flag pulls for Dimond, three for losses, and Mauri Butzke added five pulls, three for losses.
