Chugiak/Eagle River girls hockey team beats South/Bartlett in preview of Saturday title game

Rian Runyan scored the game’s lone goal and Julia Woolsey posted the shutout Friday as Chugiak/Eagle River beat two-time defending champion South/Bartlett in a preview of Saturday’s title game of the girls high school hockey championships at the Bonnie Cusack Outdoor Ice Rinks.

After a scoreless first period, Runyan, a junior forward, scored an unassisted goal that held up as the winning tally.

Woolsey, the only senior on the team, stopped 10 shots. South/Bartlett sophomore Brielle Akagi made 21 saves.

The two teams meet again on the outside ice by Anchorage Football Stadium at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Third place will be decided in a 12:30 p.m. game between Service/East and Dimond/West. Those teams also met Friday, with Dimond/West taking a 2-0 win.

Goaltender Jersey Graham was outstanding in net for the winners, stopping all 34 shots she faced. Dimond/West got goals from Janessa Reimers, with an assist going to Alexis Kindred, and Addy Glarte, who scored unassisted.

River Scott made 22 saves for Service/East.

Both games will be livestreamed on the ASD girls high school hockey Facebook page.
