The annual Lost Lake Run near Seward will not be held this summer, organizers announced today.
“We have recently been informed that the US Forest Service will not be allowing any recreational event permits for the remainder of 2020. This means that we will not be allowed to conduct the 2020 Lost Lake Run,” organizers wrote in an email.
The race, which raises money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, is held on a 16-mile U.S. Forest Service trail beginning at Primrose campground and leads to Lost Lake, ending near Bear Creek just outside Seward.
The race was first held in 1992. In 2016, the event reached its maximum number of entries — 750 — in just over 5 minutes, “making it one of the more popular mountain races in Alaska,” according to the event’s official website.
Last week, an even bigger mountain race nearby was canceled when organizers announced Mount Marathon in Seward would not be held until July 4, 2021.
The next Lost Lake run is planned for Aug. 21, 2021. All of the 2020 registrations for individuals, teams, and individual fundraisers will be carried forward to 2021, organizers wrote.
