Jeff Overbaugh's persistence is getting tested again.
The long snapper from Anchorage on Saturday was part of the Chicago Bears' 53-man roster to start the NFL season.
Sunday, the Bears waived him.
Chicago claimed long snapper Andrew DePaola off waivers from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. DePaola played all 48 games for the Buccaneers in the three previous seasons.
Chicago marked the third NFL stop for Overbaugh, a former Service High and San Diego State athlete, as he tries to break into the league. Overbaugh, 23, spent the 2016 preseason with the Los Angeles Rams and this past offseason with the Denver Broncos.
The Bears signed Overbaugh on Monday after long snapper Patrick Scales suffered a season-ending knee injury in a preseason game. Overbaugh played for the Bears in their 25-0 exhibition loss to the Cleveland Browns on Thursday.
Overbaugh summarized his week in an Instagram post Sunday:
"What a week, worked out and signed on Monday. Played the Cleveland Browns on Thursday. Made the 53 on Saturday. Released on Sunday. Unreal experience to play for my Mom's hometown team in front of her and her family! Thank you to the @chicagobears for the opportunity. I look forward to the next one!"
