Nick Hanson reaches top of WEIO podium again

Nick Hanson of Unalakleet on Saturday captured his third victory of the week at the World Eskimo-Indian Olympics in Fairbanks.

Hanson, who collected wins in the toe kick and greased pole walk on Thursday, went 46 inches in the bench reach to beat Kyle Worl of Juneau by an inch.

In the women's competition, Auna Reed-Lewis of Palmer took a narrow victory over Denali Glenzel of Kona, Hawaii.

Both women reached 31 feet and one-quarter inch, so the win was decided by their second-best efforts – 31-0.25 for Reed-Lewis and 28-0.75 for Glenzel.

It was the second gold medal for Reed-Lewis, who won Friday's ear pull.

Late Friday night, Worl destroyed the competition late in the drop the bomb contest for his second win of the week.

Worl, who earlier in the week won the kneel jump, traveled 128 feet, 5.5 inches to win by a big margin — Tim Field placed second with an effort of 87-2.

Drop the bomb is a test of core strength. The athlete lies chest-down on the gym floor in an iron cross position – feet together and arms extended straight out on either side. Three spotters pick him up, two by the wrists and one by the feet, and carry him for as long as he can maintain the position, all the while keeping his back straight and buttocks low.

Hanson, a star of TV's "American Ninja Warrior," finished third in the event, collapsing with an aggravated shoulder injury after 65 feet. He rebounded nicely to win Saturday's bench reach.
