Anchorage’s Foreman nabs back-to-back silvers at taekwondo national championships

Micah Foreman of Anchorage battled his way to back-to-back silver medals at the U.S. National Taekwondo Championships on Wednesday in Detroit.

Last year, Foreman was the third Alaskan in 40 years to earn a medal in that division, according to Alaska taekwondo officials. He is only the second Alaskan to win medals in two national championships, officials said.

A freshman at UAA and a member of Taekwondo Elite USA, Foreman topped a national collegiate bronze medalist and a U.S. Open medalist, before falling to No. 1 seed Hanssel Llanos of Texas in the world-class, male-middle sparring division finals, 15-11.

Foreman's performance qualifies him for the 2018 U.S. team trials to determine the team for next year's Pan American Taekwondo Championships.
