Lamoreaux, Fox set pace in 60-mile fatbike race in Talkeetna

Jason Lamoreaux was the lone cyclist to race 60 miles in less than six hours at the 5th annual Trio Fatbike World Championships last weekend in Talkeetna.

Lamoreaux and Laura Fox easily outpaced the competition in the longest of three distances offered. Lamoreaux finished in 5 hours, 32 minutes to beat men's runner-up David Arteaga, who finished in six hours flat, and Fox clocked 6:49, more than 40 minutes ahead of women's runner-up Janice Tower.

Wins in the 40-mile race went to Matthew Tabinor and Tazlina Mannix, and wins in the 20-mile race went to Oliver Sternicki and Cheryl Matyas.

Only 15 people finished the 60-miler. Twenty-five completed the 40-miler and 101 finished the 20-miler.

The day was beautiful — bikers raced under a sunny blue sky — but conditions were challenging. Snow on the 20-mile loop got soft and churned-up as the race progressed.

The race was sponsored by Speedway Cycles, Fatback Bikes and Backcountry Bike and Ski,
