5 Anchorage athletes to represent US in rink hockey world championships

Five Anchorage athletes will represent the U.S. at the FIRS Ladies Rink Hockey World Championship in Iquique, Chile, in September.

Elizabeth Harmon, Kylie Hughes, Kimberley Hughes, Rachel Guyer and Alyssa Coll of the Alaska Sno-Devils make up half of the 10-member World Cup team.

The tournament begins Sept. 24.

The skaters are coming off the U.S. national championships, where 20 Alaska athletes competed in Lincoln, Nebraska, July 16-23.

The Sno-Devils finished second in the ladies division, with Kylie earning MVP honors after recording 20 goals and four assists.

In the co-ed divisions, the Sno-Devils finished first in 12U and 14U and third in 10U.

Alaska's Wyatt Hickock earned MVP honors in both 12U (24 goals) and 14U (21 goals).

Alaska's Aiden Hickock (35 goals) earned MVP honors in 10U and Eli McKenzie earned the Best Goalie award in 14U.

The national championships drew more than 400 athletes.
