11 more Alaskans cash in at World Series of Poker

Another 11 Alaskans have won money at the annual World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, with one pocketing more than $22,000 and two others cashing twice.

Michael Kinney of Big Lake racked $22,686 for his 18th-place finish in the Seniors No-Limit Hold 'em event that required a $1,000 entry fee, or buy-in, and drew 4,499 players.

Kinney's haul was the second-most lucrative by an Alaskan so far in the 47th edition of the WSOP. Wayne McGregor of Wasilla earlier won $26,470 in a No-Limit event.

Nine Alaskans cashed in the Seniors event, open to players 50 and older. Those included Robert "Butch'' Hallford of Palmer and Michael Brain of Anchorage, and both men also won money in other tournaments.

Hallford won $5,692 for finishing 33rd in the Super Seniors No-Limit event for players 65 and older and won $3,061 for his 204th in the Seniors event. Brain won $11,055 for finishing 31st in a No-Limit tournament that featured a $2,000 buy-in and 1,419 entries, and bagged another $2,384 for his 332nd in the Seniors event.

Brain has cashed six times in his WSOP history.

In all, 25 Alaskans have won money at The Rio, where 69 separate tournaments will be contested over a period of about seven weeks.

Other Alaskans who won money in the Seniors event were Gerald Miller of Anchorage (230th, $2,689); Gregory Earl of Anchorage (364th, $2,133); Charles Bailey of Fort Greely (472nd, $1,926); Russ Novak of Fairbanks (563rd, $1,615); Ronny Miyaoka of Anchorage (567th, $1,615); and George Rawls of Anchorage (650th, $1,500).

Also earning money in the Super Seniors event were David Buckingham of Soldotna (69th, $2,915) and David Templeton of Anchorage (75th, $2,551).
