As August approaches, the North Slope city of Barrow, in Alaska's high Arctic, sees its "long day" begin to conclude for the year. The sun doesn't set on the northernmost incorporated city in the United States from May 10 until Aug. 2 -- and won't rise between Nov. 18 and Jan. 24.
