Mourners gather for a Solemn Mass of Christian Burial for Archbishop Emeritus Francis T. Hurley on Friday afternoon, Jan. 22, 2016, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish. Hurley was remembered for his initiatives to help the homeless, and his ministry across the state. "The real gift that Archbishop Hurley brought was that ability to involve others in the things that he was passionate about, to engender in others that same sort of zeal and to see that in common purpose each of us have possibilities we never knew we possessed," said Fr. Steven Moore in his homily. Hurley, who served as Archbishop of Anchorage from 1976 to 2001, died January 10. The Rite of Committal will be at noon Saturday at St. John Neumann Mission in Cooper Landing.
