JUNEAU — The chairman of the Alaska Republican party does not plan to seek re-election this year.
Peter Goldberg says serving as party chair takes a lot of time. He says he wants more time for himself and to spend with family.
He plans to seek another role with the party: national committeeman.
Goldberg took over as party chair in 2013, after a tumultuous year that saw a fight over the direction of the party.
State GOP spokeswoman Suzanne Downing says Goldberg has brought stability and order. She says the party is in good shape.
A new chairman will be selected at state party convention in April. Goldberg says his term won't end until early next year.
