Illegal-firing lawsuit against Gov. Dunleavy will continue without ACLU

A former assistant attorney general who accused Gov. Mike Dunleavy of illegally firing her will continue her lawsuit with a different attorney.

Elizabeth Bakalar has replaced the Alaska chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union with Mark Choate of Juneau and Amanda Harber of Soldotna, she said in a text message.

She was dissatisfied with the pace of the lawsuit, she said.

Bakalar and two Alaska Psychiatric Institute psychologists sued the governor and Dunleavy chief of staff Tuckerman Babcock with the help of the ACLU in 2019. (Babcock has since left his role.) Their cases are in federal court; a fourth state employee sued in state court.
