Alaska DMV director resigns

The director of the state's Division of Motor Vehicles has resigned.

Amy Erickson, who was hired to run the DMV in 2013 under former Republican Gov. Sean Parnell, resigned in June.

A spokeswoman for the Alaska Department of Administration, the DMV's supervising agency, declined to say why Erickson resigned, and Erickson didn't immediately respond to a phone message Tuesday.

Amy Johnson, the DMV deputy director, will do Erickson's job on an acting basis until a permanent replacement is hired, said the spokeswoman, Minta Montalbo.
