I appreciated Rick Sinnott’s rebuttal of Jim Lieb’s claims about President McKinley and the proposed renaming of Denali. I would like to point out an additional fact. Denali is not merely “our” mountain. Denali is, first, within a national park, and is not on state land, and, second, it is a national treasure and not merely of local interest. Its naming should not be under the exclusive control of Alaskans as determined by popular vote. Nor should it be influenced by Trump’s vice president-elect Vance, of Ohio. His interests are even more parochial than Jim Lieb’s.
