No doubt that the “Proposed trooper post would bolster patrols in Willow and Talkeetna” (ADN, Dec. 24) is needed, but has the governor forgotten that the Girdwood trooper post on the Seward Highway was also closed in 2016?
ADN’s reporting reminded me that the cost of patrolling the Girdwood area including the state highway was passed on to local property tax payers to the tune of a small state income tax, but without the comprehensive services offered by the troopers or the economies of scale to be had.
The reality is that oil production tax revenue is forecast to drop off the fiscal cliff in 2025 and state services will again be on the chopping block, perhaps to further encumber property tax payers.
— Louis Theiss, Girdwood
