Well here go again — another big fish swallowing up a little fish.
The fishing industry is going through some hard times right now and they are having a tough time financially getting through the mess. But letting Silver Bay buy up OBI Fisheries is not a good long-term answer.
Silver Bay is already in the process of taking over a portion of Peter Pan Seafoods. Letting them take over OBI will create a huge price control issue on fish pricing, and the fishermen will be the losers!
Competition in Bristol Bay is becoming less and less on an annual basis. I don’t think letting this happen is a wise move for the state of Alaska.
