Letters to the Editor

Letter: Misplaced fear

I think Roy Corral’s anxiety (Nov. 11, “Do I need to fear my neighbors?”) about being summarily deported by future Trump immigration policies because of his appearance — apparently Filipino — is grossly misplaced. Instead of looking over his shoulder for neo-Nazis, he should closely examine the chip of paranoia resting uneasily there.

Regardless of any personal sense of insecurity he might have over his physical appearance, I think he should appreciate that as a self-described immigrant, courtesy of the United States government, this country provided the legal, political and physical structure for him during the past 60 years in Alaska to proudly establish himself here and participate in the same civic opportunities of liberty and self-determination as any other citizen, as well as the opportunity to become a photojournalist. America has many problems, but persecution of legal residents is not one of them.
