Letter: Presidential transition

The election is over, and former president Donald Trump is now President-elect Donald Trump. He will assume the duties of president in two short months. Yet he is dismissing legal requirements — no surprise, I guess — by failing to comply with Presidential Transition Act of 1963, an act of Congress.

This act states, in part: Not later than Oct. 1, the Executive Office of the President, acting through the Federal Transition Coordinator, negotiates memorandums of understanding with transition teams regarding conditions of access to agencies, including agreement by transition teams to implement and make public their ethics plans.

I realize Trump views the world through his own lens, but this is exceptionally concerning. It hampers the actual transition of his team in coordinating his team’s access to the departments and obtaining needed security clearances to pave the way for an effective transition. I am concerned about the obvious disregard for the act and his apparent belief such things do not apply to him and his incoming administration.
