A recent ADN editorial commented on state education commissioner Deena Bishop’s inappropriate use of AI-generated fake citations. There was no mention in this article, or in any other news coverage of this incident, of the very place one goes to find real, high-quality, peer-reviewed research articles. Nor did any of the news sources cover where to get help with checking sources. Libraries, folks!
Perhaps the ADN should follow up with an article to inform the information-illiterate, including our state government officials, about what libraries do. If our officials understood where to go to get assistance, they wouldn’t make these silly mistakes. There are even three excellent libraries in Juneau that could help Bishop find the research she needs. Ask a librarian.
