Letter: Some thoughts on the election

As an 81-year-old, 47-year resident of Anchorage, I have three observations regarding the recent presidential election: 1. President Joe Biden and the Democrats will ensure that there is a smooth and peaceful transition of power, culminating in Donald Trump’s swearing- in ceremony on Jan. 20, 2025 — quite unlike the terrible, violent events orchestrated by then-President Donald Trump himself in the months leading up to Joe Biden’s swearing-in ceremony in January 2021.

2. I know that during the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, my politically conservative parents, and all their conservative friends, would never have voted for the likes of Donald Trump.

3. Something strange and bizarre has happened to the majority of American voters over the past half-century — and it sure as hell ain’t good.
