Letter: Protect Alaska's right to privacy

Abortion bans result in girls and women of childbearing age becoming targeted for attempts to investigate, prosecute, and imprison them for their pregnancy outcomes. Since the fall of Roe v. Wade, state and local governments in the Lower 48 have subjected women to restrictions on their interstate travel, attempts to access their private medical records, have sought to use modern technologies to track and surveil them, and have criminalized their doctor’s attempts to care for them. Maternal mortality rates have risen, and approximately one-third of American women are now much more likely to experience dangerous pregnancy complication results as their healthcare options have been taken away from them.

Mary Peltola opposes a national abortion ban and is dedicated to protecting the right to privacy that all Alaskans are afforded under our state constitution, and to keep the federal government out of our personal decisions.

Nick Begich supports a national abortion ban, bringing the government into our most private moments and giving it enormous power over us.

If you value privacy, freedom and the health and well-being of the women in your life, the choice is clear; vote to re-elect Mary Peltola.
