Letter: Family Council hypocrisy

An unattributed quote on the Alaska Family Council website extols their critical service in keeping “us informed and engaged in the political process.” Jim Minnery’s attacks on Rep. David Eastman and Alaska Right to Life bring that claim into question.

Take abortion funding: Eastman’s budget amendment would have stopped state payment for Planned Parenthood abortions. Eight House Republicans voted with the abortion lobby to kill it. Three more Republicans joined Sen. Cathy Giessel in the Senate to ensure continued funding.

When Eastman moved to prohibit state funding for childhood gender transitions, 19 Republicans joined Planned Parenthood-endorsed Democrat CJ McCormick to defeat it.

In total, 19 Republicans opposed Alaska Family Council’s stated agenda on these core issues. Yet Minnery attacked Eastman, while endorsing 14 of these Republicans for reelection.

Now we know why Minnery left Giessel’s quote unattributed. When a discredited “pro-life” champion turned abortion advocate is your standard for “keeping us informed,” attacking the one consistently pro-life legislator while endorsing those who fund abortions starts to make perfect sense.
