Letter: Weather control

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, widely known for intelligent statements based upon her years of experience and study of the mysterious ways of the universe, has just asserted that our government does indeed control the weather. I am not sure why she assumes that the government is competent to control anything, but in this case, she may be right about the weather being controllable by someone.

After all, someone has been responsible for the release of the hundreds of thousands of tons of pollutants which resulted in an insulating dome that has changed the temperature of our seas and altered the rainfall patterns, jet stream flow and seasonal land temperatures established over the last 1,000 years. This practice certainly amounts to some sort of controlling force, and those who refuse to make serious progress toward correcting it are exerting unwelcome control over our future weather.

Those dangerous practices that were carried out in ignorance are forgivable. Ignoring the scores of wildfires, dozens of calamitous floods, rising ocean levels, double-barreled hurricanes, swarms of tornadoes, and weeks of 100-plus degree temperatures by claiming “fake news” is criminal stupidity.

Perhaps we can correct our previous practices and procedures and, over 100 years or so, restore nature’s balance and actually exert some amount of positive control over the weather.
