At the recent U.S. House debate, Mary Peltola could not say she would vote for Vice President Kamala Harris. This is another example of Rep. Peltola taking her political base for granted. As she continues to court moderate Republicans and independents, she forgets about the base’s excitement to vote for her in 2022. Did Rep. Peltola forget about the hard work her base did to help her win in 2022?
During her two years in Congress, Rep. Peltola has yet to inspire her core supporters with some of her political stances. What could very well be the final straw, the lack of support for her party’s presidential candidate could mark the slow death of her run as Alaska’s lone House representative.
Ultimately, I will vote for Rep. Peltola, but not because she inspires me or I believe in her. I am voting for her because she is the lesser of two evils. However, if she continues to take me and others for granted, I will make a protest vote next time around.
