A recent letter on how the Samoan community has chosen a path of healing and forgiveness got me thinking. It is indeed a “humble and emotional gesture.” Let’s now hope that the Municipality of Anchorage leadership responds in kind.
The Municipality can do this by recognizing that while the individual officers’ actions may have indeed been legal, extremely poor judgment was exercised. And if the responding officers were “following procedure,” then let’s hope that the Municipality recognizes the severity of the flaws in their training.
And most of all, let’s hope that any “gestures” by the Municipality are followed by real actions.
