Letter: Pedestrian death solution?

Your recent article on pedestrian deaths failed to mention one possible solution that seems to be in evidence on Minnesota Drive between Northern Lights and Benson boulevards.

There, a vertical barrier resembling a fence has been installed on the median. To all appearances, this will prevent pedestrians from attempting the midblock crossings that have been a factor in the recent state of pedestrian deaths. I haven’t seen this being tried elsewhere in town, so perhaps it’s a test.

If so, and it works, it could do much to decrease pedestrian fatalities in our town at minimal cost. I urge you to do a story about this to let us know what’s behind it, whether and how well it’s worked elsewhere, and what the plans are for a wider rollout if the test is successful here.
