Letter: Pedestrian deaths

How many of the 12 pedestrians killed this year were hit/killed in a crosswalk? None that I know of. How many were under the influence of a substance or mentally impaired? Not reported.

My take on the three recommendations the Assembly made?

Lighting: OK but expensive.

Lower speed limits: inconvenient to law-abiding drivers. Education campaign: waste of money.

If we care about pedestrians, how about the city and state step up and clear the snow on sidewalks so pedestrians won’t have to walk in the streets when it snows?
