Letter: An incomprehensible ruling

A recent ADN headline: “Alaska Supreme Court rules that incarcerated candidate can appear on U.S. House ballot.” According the to the article, a man who reportedly has never been in Alaska and currently sits in jail thousands of miles from Alaska will now appear on the ballot for U.S. Representative from Alaska. I understand that this travesty against common sense and justice is “legal.”

I cannot express my opinion on this situation any better than did English writer Charles Dickens (Feb. 1812 – June 1870), through the character Mr. Bumble in “Oliver Twist”: " ‘If the law supposes that,’ said Mr. Bumble, squeezing his hat emphatically in both hands, ‘the law is a ass — a idiot.’ "
