As the saying went in “Field of Dreams,” “If you build it, they will come.” So there are those who want to tear down the Eklutna Dam with the dream that the salmon will return. We would give up a cheap source of clean electricity for a dream that would probably be a bust.
I first fished the Deshka River in 1972 and then the Alexander, Lake Creek and some others. All these rivers are closed to fishing because the salmon runs have vanished. As Forrest Gump would say, “Stupid is as stupid does.”
