Letters to the Editor

Letter: What rights are we protecting?

What rights are U.S. senators protecting? The right to harm, and tragically kill innocent children and their gifted teachers? A presidential candidate perhaps? Why do Republicans in Congress hide behind the illusion that ownership of assault weapons preserves and protects the civil liberties and rights of the citizens of this nation? For votes, of course, and the backing of powerful lobby groups like the NRA, an organization I was a member of for many years.

We must no longer accept the callous cruelty that comes with the allegiance of lawmakers to powerful lobbying groups and their narrow-minded vision. Please think about all of those who have been lost to senseless gun violence when voting this fall. We must and can do better.
