Letter: Police shootings vs. other crime

Some argue that we shouldn’t worry much about police shootings of, in particular, Black people, because “Black on Black” crime, nationwide, might result in more deaths. And the same argument could perhaps be made about police shootings of others: those who are poor, homeless and so forth.

But whereas crime in general is indirectly susceptible to policy in various ways, police represent the policy of our society, of our communities, directly.

I can understand that those disproportionally targeted by police — whether intentionally or not — might not like feeling that their society, their community, thinks it’s OK to target them. Can you?
