Letter: Something's wrong with police

What has gone amiss with our police department and safety services? Another person was shot and killed for wielding a knife. Deadly force is not the first thing any officer should think of before de-escalating the situation especially when the weapon is not a device generally used at a distance. The police should not draw their guns unless the individual being confronted has done the same.

The police are no longer the safety anchor we, as Anchorage children, were taught to turn to in times of trouble. Something is terribly wrong. The relationship between the public and the police must be altered.
