Letter: Action on homelessness

Kudos go to Central Lutheran Church for designing a safe living community, via “In Our Backyard,” to help relieve some of my concerns about the plight of the homeless in our state. I especially worry about families with young, school-aged children who would benefit from a stable home near a neighboring school, transportation and support services.

I understand that in other states, there has been an increase in relatively inexpensive “tiny homes” built to house this population. I believe that there is a large open space of land near police and animal control that is unused now that could provide a safe neighborhood for families. Could this land be made available for the development of tiny houses that could be built by volunteer groups such as Habitat for Humanity or local service organizations?

Homelessness is not going away by us complaining; action is needed now.
