Letter: The right to life

To those who advocate the complete prohibition of abortion, allow me to put forth an imaginary situation: A woman in advanced pregnancy has complications that lead to a choice between the woman’s life or that of the unborn child. The woman has four children at home, ranging in age between 3 and 9.

Which is the kinder and more logical action, losing the fetus, which has never known consciousness, or depriving four underage children of a mother?

Those who believe in absolute, by-the-book enforcement of laws don’t seem to realize that in dealing with human beings, there are thousands of different situations that can’t be solved by the adoption of a onesize- fits-all law.
