Letter: Groh helps veterans

As a veteran and an Alaskan, I applaud the adoption of legislation pushed by Rep. Cliff Groh that will help connect military and veteran families with employment and educational opportunities in our state.

Rep. Groh originally introduced a bill creating the Military and Veteran Family Help Desk in the Alaska Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. Groh was able to incorporate his bill into other military-oriented legislation sponsored by Sen. Bill Wielechowski. This bill establishing the Help Desk has now become law.

When service members and their families arrive at our unique state, navigating the complex world of job opportunities, schools, and state services can be daunting. By offering a centralized point of contact, the Military and Veteran Family Help Desk will ensure that military members, military spouses, military dependents, and veterans receive timely and relevant assistance to meet their needs.

This legislation will go a long way in making our active duty service members, veterans, and their families feel truly at home in Alaska. Hats off to Rep. Cliff Groh!
