Letter: Peltola represents Alaskans well

I can’t help but respond to the recent “Not surprised” letter from Steve Robertson. With respect to the author, I think he is missing the point related to Rep. Mary Peltola. She (as well as Sen. Lisa Murkowski) is one of my favorite politicians not just in Alaska, but nationwide.

She (and Murkowski) has the support that she does because her party does not define her. She doesn’t need to find a different party because she does or doesn’t bash Trump. Peltola has an opinion on the border that doesn’t mesh with other Democrats. Great! She happens to represent all of us Alaskans. And many Alaskans care deeply about the national border.

I am confident that her opinion on the border does not mean she doesn’t care about every other issue that affects us. Her history backs that up.

I often disagree with our elected representatives, but Peltola votes as an Alaskan, not just a Democrat. That makes me inclined to forgive most of our disagreements. Although I appreciate the author’s concern about a Trumpian border stance, he is wrong about condemning Peltola.
